Anger Case Study

Participant struggles with anger and rage quitting, often destroying controllers or breaking their ipad when losing.

Counsellor works with participant in their anger, working on strategies to avoid outbursts such as physical movements, breathing techniques, co-regulation and the underlying causes of the frustrations.

Counsellor works with the participant in participating in the same interactive platforms that cause the outbursts but in a way where they are exploring the map or completing mini challenges set by the counsellor, for example fishing in a fast paced setting, or being the first player to lose.

Between the first few sessions, outbursts are happening and a controller is broken. The participant is upset with themselves for breaking the controller so they cannot participate and counsellor works with them around their big feelings. Controller is replaced in time for the next session and there has not been an incident since. Strategies for regulation are successful between sessions and have begun to be utilised at school. Some frustrations still occur however they are lessened in duration and severity, often via self-regulation.
